NDP cares passionately about people

-

The citizens of Stellarton, Trenton, and New Glasgow have a proud history of hard work and accomplishment. We have such tremendous strength here. I want to help you harness that strength, to make this a better place for all of us. And that is why I am running to be your MLA, on Gary Burrill’s team.

I was attracted to the NDP because I saw in Gary a man of the utmost integrity, a man who thinks deeply about politics and political life. It was clear to me that his values, NDP values, align with mine. We all care passionately about people.

We need to invest, not cut, in education, in health, in community services. It’s time to use the power of government spending, now, with historically low interest rates, to invest in our people. We will all be rewarded. Deficit is not a dirty word.

Free community college tuition will be paid back many times over in the taxes those graduates will pay, when they get those good jobs.

A higher minimum wage means more people in our community with more money to spend back in your businesses.

People need family doctors. Gary Burrill and I promise you that the NDP will invest, at a minimum an extra $5.5 million to work with the people of Pictou County to find the doctors we need.

Seniors should have help to stay in their homes and lead independent lives – and better care for those who cannot. We will reverse the cuts the Liberals made to nursing home budgets – let’s make sure our elderly have fresh food to eat and programming to enhance their quality of life.

The needs of our towns aren’t the same as Halifax. The NDP will immediately look for practical solutions that we can do on the ground, with you, to kick start job creation.

You all know me. I’ve worked hard for our community all my life, and I have made a difference. How? Because I never, ever gave up. I will bring that persistence to my work as your MLA.

You need an MLA who will be there for you, on health care, on senior care, on jobs. You need an MLA whose door will be open to all of you, who will be a new, enthusiastic voice in Halifax.

I will work hard for you. I will listen to you. And I will be passionate about your concerns. Together, we can make Pictou Centre a better place. Join me, on May 30, and we can make history. Henderson Paris
