Dickson retiring from Town of New Glasgow

-

A long-time employee of the Town of New Glasgow announced her retirement Friday.

Kimberly Dickson served as the town’s director of marketing and communications for 16 years. July 1 will be her last day.

“I have taken pride in and been excited to produce marketing materials and organize or create professional presentations that showcased the strengths of New Glasgow and Pictou County provincially, regionally, nationally and even internationally,” she said.

“From Saltscapes to the Communities in Bloom national symposium, to cruise ship

trade shows, to tourism events, to hosting travel writers, to visitors, businesses and through numerous media outlets, it has been a pleasure to promote our community and its many assets and talented people.”

Her work behind the scenes has included the Flourish branding, marketing for the New Glasgow Farmers Market, and helping people prepare for emergencies through her work with the Emergency Measures Office.

In retirement, she said she plans to explore new creative interests and is looking forward to having more time to spend with her family and travelling. While it was a difficult decision, she said she wanted to take the leap now while she was still passionate about her work.

“Kim has been a valued member of the Town of New Glasgow senior management team for 16 years and she will be greatly missed by her colleagues and the organizations that she worked closely with,” Chief Administrative Officer Lisa MacDonald said in a release. “The town has benefited immensely from her professional and creative talents, which made her a leader in the marketing and communications field as well as helping New Glasgow to grow and flourish.”

Dickson began her career with the Town of New Glasgow in September of 2001 after serving as the executive director of the Pictou County Tourist Association. She was recently recognized for her work and personal passion as a life-long proponent for the region of Northumberland and Eastern Shores, by being selected as the Fleur Mainville Ambassador Award recipient during Destination Eastern and Northumberland Shores (DEANS) Gala Awards Dinner.

She said the job with the town was great because it allowed her to combine two career passions – communications and marketing with tourism and community development.

“I’ll miss most working with the people I’ve had the pleasure to work with,” she said. “That’s been very diverse, from town officials to town staff leaders to employees, community volunteers, business owners and their teams.”
