Books of Nova Scotia
In continuing the honor of Canada’s 150th birthday this year, the Nova Scotia Library Association and Nova Scotia’s nine regional public library systems are sponsoring a province-wide library project to encourage the celebration of Nova Scotia’s writers and citizens, ideas and attitudes, culture and environment, stories and treasures. And we need your book suggestions!
The 150 Books of Influence is a compilation of 150 books that Nova Scotians feel have somehow influenced or defined them. The titles on the list will be those books that have captured Nova Scotians’ hearts and minds: books that tell Nova Scotia’s stories and inspire its citizens. From now, into mid-summer of 2017, Nova Scotians can nominate books for the 150 Books of Influence online at www.150booksns. ca and in person at Nova Scotia’s public libraries.
The nominated books can include children, youth and adult titles; fiction and non-fiction; scholarly texts; books of diversity; books in French, Gaelic, Mi’kmaq and/or English; and current and historical titles – any book by a Nova Scotian author and/or about Nova Scotia that you feel defines Nova Scotia for you. Share why your title deserves to be included, in 150 words or less.
Also launching June 1, we have the Big Community Summer Book Club (for ages 14+). Read a book, and share your thoughts with us – liked it, loved it… or maybe not. Each shared book recommendation will earn a ballot to enter to win a fabulous prize. Thanks to sponsorship by Adopt-a-Library Literacy Program and its community partners, monthly draws will be held in June, July and August, and several grand prize draws on Sept. 1, 2017 (including an adult bike, and a weekend stay at the Holiday Inn Express StellartonNew Glasgow).
And speaking of summer, the library has just received word on our applications for summer interns. We are hiring three access to technology assistants. The position start date is June 13, 2017. Information on all three positions is available on the library’s employment page, http://www.parl.ns.ca/about/ employment.php and at all Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library branches.
