Tennis program being offered to students through summer

- BY ADAM MACINNIS

Students at elementary schools in New Glasgow have been getting a taste for tennis recently as Gerry Holle visits to share about the program they have offered through the Town of New Glasgow at the Westside Community Centre.

The programs runs all summer.

“With the membership you get lessons Monday through Friday and free court access from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.,” he said.

On Monday he was at A.G. Baillie where students were practising bouncing balls on the racquets.

Holle loves tennis and is on the courts most days for work as well as recreation.

The Town of New Glasgow opened new courts at the Westside Centre six years ago, but the program has been going on for much longer with varying degrees of membership, Smith said.

Tennis is a great way for students to stay active and be social in the summer months, he said.

“Tennis is a great game that you can learn to play at a really young age, whereas with some sports it takes a little longer to develop the skill,” he said.

Anyone who would like to sign up to be a tennis member can sign up at the Town Hall or visit www.newglasgow.ca. Students were also presented with registration forms at their schools.

Classes are offered for youth ages 4-18 throughout the week and adult classes are available once a week. The cost of membership is $75 for children and seniors and $100 for adults. Family memberships are $250.
