Popular food offering at farmers market now making the rounds through the week on food truck

Customers who head to the New Glasgow Farmers Market on Saturdays for a taste of Shree Curry Place’s vegetarian Indian cuisine, can now have it more often.

Vandana and Sameer Amin, who have been selling dishes like butter paneer at the market for nearly a year, recently opened a food truck.

Vandana said they started thinking about expanding their business about six months ago.

“Our customers wanted something to be available not just Saturdays but more often,” she said. “We wanted more people to be able to try our food and share what we have.”

The truck enables them to reach more people in other areas, with Vandana noting they’ve had good response at events such as art festivals in Antigonish.

The food is a reflection of the food they ate growing up in Vadodara in the state of Gujarat, modified “to be more enjoyable for all Canadians” in terms of the spice level.

“We keep it mild so everybody can enjoy.”

They moved to Toronto in 2005 for a better life, Vandana said, including better education. During a trip to the area in July 2015, they fell in love with Pictou County, making the move in November of that year.

“Not every town has such a welcoming nature. That’s what brought us,” Vandana said, noting the mayor made a point of visiting their truck once they opened.

While they’ve been cooking together for a long time and have done some catering, this is their first venture selling food on a larger scale.

“It feels good. We’re confident that things will go good.”

Their hours and locations can be found through their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
