Farmer the Band performing as Monday Music goes weekly

-

There have been Monday Music concerts in Alma all year long, but the summer season begins on June 26 when concerts will be held every week until the end of August.

Concerts are always on Mondays and start time is always 7:30 p.m. with the little Green Hill – Alma United Church remaining home to the event.

Admission is suggested at $10 a person, but audience members are encouraged to pay whatever they can.

A wide range of musicians are on the summer schedule from blues to folk to country gospel to singer/songwriter from a wide range of ages – mature, well-seasoned performers to eager newbies who want to have their music heard.

While most of the musicians this summer are from the local area, there are a couple of musicians Farmer the Band is performing at the Green Hill-Alma United Church on June 26 as part of the Monday Music concert series.

who are travelling to get here.

The musicians on June 26 fall into that category.

The folk musicians of Farmer the Band were on stage in Alma last fall and are happy to include it in their tour again this year.

Glen and Lourine Koide began their performing career with two guitars in coffee shops and farmers markets and now travel across the country with a van full of instruments.

The duo from British Columbia began adding more instruments to “enhance the stories of some songs in their performances.”

While two guitars worked for most of their songs, some needed “more bottom end to drive and support the melodies,” their bio says, prompting the addition of bass.

Later came a foot tambourine, a kick drum, snare, hi-hat, harmonica and the occasional trumpet line, expanding from a few songs to almost the full set.

“We added more instruments but forgot to add the players!” they say in their bio.

They recently finished recording their first studio album and are embarking on their second national tour.

They look forward to seeing friends they made last year and meeting new ones at their concert in Alma on June 26.
