George “Hector” Sutherland

George “Hector” Sutherland, 82, of Victoria, formerly of Black River, East Branch, Pictou Co., passed away in Victoria, B.C., on February 8, 2017.

Born in Black River, he was the eldest son of the late George William and Hattie May (Bain) Sutherland.

Although Hector moved to B.C. as a young man, Pictou Co. was always where his heart was. He took a great interest in antique cars, displaying many of his own in shows.

He is survived by his brother, Floyd (Debbie), Ont.; sisters, Elizabeth “Eileen” Crocker (Vaughn Ackinson), Elmsdale; Christina Ruggles (John Moore), Musquodobo­it; Ruth Roddick-Spicer, Brookland; special niece, Amanda Roddick, Halifax; several nieces and nephews; stepchildr­en, Ron MacKenzie, Danny MacKenzie and Brenda Goodyear, and son-in-law, Roger Allen, all of B.C.; grandchild­ren: Brianna, Brittany, Cassie, and Hannah Allen and Tammy and Chris Goodyear.

Hector was predecease­d by his wife, Carol; step-children, Pam Allen and Gary MacKenzie; niece, Donna Crocker, nephew, Adam Roddick; and brothers-in-law, Clyde Crocker, Harold Ruggles, Henry Roddick and George Spicer.

His memorial service will be held 2 o’clock Saturday, June 24, at Burns Presbyteri­an Church, West Branch, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiatin­g. Burial will be in West Branch Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Burns Presbyteri­an Church, West Branch Cemetery, West Branch Hall, or the Scotsburn 4-H – Hector was a former member himself.
