Living with cancer

Kathy Golemiec’s weekly check-in

So how was your week? Summer is here woo hoo – bug bites and kids nagging they are bored – let’s do something or go somewhere, there is nothing to eat – and that’s the day after you went and bought groceries.

Take a deep breath and smile because it gets really boring when they grow up and move away. Both of my girls moved to British Columbia so it’s not just a ride up the road. So really be happy they are young and loud.

My week was not bad at all. I’m a bit depressed, and have a bit of pain, but other than that, not too bad. I will find out all my test results next week, so keep your fingers crossed.

Today I want to talk about colostomy. A lady send me a letter telling me now awful it was to find the right liners – liners that didn’t leak or release the odor – and she told me she even tried the dog bags from the dollar store and that didn’t work so well. She asked the drug stores and the hospitals if there was a better liner and cheaper, and she was told nothing like that existed.

Her daughter went online looking for something to make her mother’s life less stressful, and she found the perfect solution – Colo-Majic Liners. One hundred liners per bag cost about $40. She said the freedom they give her is unbelievable, – no odor, no mess and easy to dispose of and for health reasons sanitary and easy to apply. They can be put in apurse or pocket to cut down on accidents on clothes and the freedom to enjoy a quality of life.

She sent me one so I could see what they look like. They are made and designed in Canada. Ask your drug store to get them or you can order them online at www.colomajic.com. They are called Colo-Majic Liners for colostomy or ileostomy management.

I didn’t make it to the flea market last week, as I could not get out of bed. I felt so sick everytime I lifted my head, and the room would spin. I got out of bed almost in time to go back to bed. I felt better the next day so it wasn’t a cold or a flu. I’m glad of that. I think it’s the bone filler medicine. I have hot flashes at night – not in the day – and it’s only when I get the bone filler that I feel awful for a while, so I’m glad that my oncologist cut it down to every second time I get the chemotherapy.

I weeded my garden yesterday and today I could barely move. Every bone in my body hurt from the bending over. It feels good to sit up as straight as I can. When I walk, I look like I was just riding an elephant bare back for a day.

Thank you for all the letters and cards. I really appreciate them. They make me smile to know people who I don’t even know are rooting for me. Prayers really help.

Tip of the week … to stop the itch and sting of a bug bite, I put rubbing alcohol on a tissue and rub it on the bite, itch or sting, and it feels better.

I am asking all my readers to send some good vibes and I would like you to add my uncle John to your prayer list. He was a captain in the army for years and now he is getting ready to do his next call of duty in heaven. They have only given him days. So please think of him in your prayers. Thank you.

It’s funny I look in the mirror or at my hands and I’m looking older. When did this happen? I’m going to have to buy a new mirror – this one isn’t working too well.

Have a good week folks … and yes, the ants are everywhere.
