Redtail offering day-camp for children

-

Friends of Redtail Society is offering an outdoor, nature daycamp for children in August.

The program, led by Billy MacDonald, Joella Arsenault and Kate McDonald, will take place on Aug. 10 for ages eight to 12 years.

MacDonald is an FRS board member and founder of Redtail Nature Awareness Camp, which for 25 years played an important role in introducing both children and adults to the value of biodiversity in the natural world.

Arsenault is also an FRS board member, as well as a nature photographer and one who formerly attended Redtail Nature Awareness Camp. For the past decade she has helped MacDonald with various programs and currently works with school-age children.

McDonald also attended the camp, and she holds a masters in Environment, Culture and Society. She is currently working on energy management.

The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will include nature awareness activities plus a hike on Craig’s Way. Drop-off and pick-up is on FRS lands off MacBeth Road, before the bridge (coming from Elmfield). Day-campers are asked to bring a lunch that is peanut/tree nut/shellfish free, and snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, suitable footwear (no open-toed shoes) and attire for the weather conditions. Camp will not be cancelled due to rain. No cellphones please.

Cost for the day is $30; bursaries are available.

To register, email FRS at info@ friendsofredtail.ca. For further information, call Billy MacDonald at 902-485-4688.
