New Glasgow marina to benefit from federal funds
The federal government is investing more than $27,000 to New Glasgow’s Riverfront Marina.
The funding was announced Saturday by Central Nova MP Sean Fraser.
He said families located in the New Glasgow area will benefit from a more vibrant community where they can connect with their friends and neighbours as a result of the investment from the Government of Canada.
“The East River is a well-used and enjoyed part of New Glasgow’s downtown core,” Fraser said. “From recreational boaters and other water craft, and those enjoying the Samson Trail, the river is a beautiful spot for tourists and residents to enjoy.”
The money will be used toward enhancements to New Glasgow’s Riverfront Marina. The marina, located along the East River, will continue to serve as a draw for tourists and residents in the community.
The Town of New Glasgow also contributed $27,152 to a portion of the project, which is now complete. Funds from the town went towards adding a wrap-around deck to the existing structure, a new roof, doors and windows. Since the completion of the project, the space has been host to various community events including yoga through the town’s recreation program, music programs and special events.
This investment is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), a $300-million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together.
