Monday Music welcomes September returns
After taking a break for Labour Day, Monday Music in Alma will have the lights on and door open for a couple of returning musicians later this month. Sept. 18 will see Ian Sherwood returning to the stage with music from his new CVD. But first, Canadian troubadour, Michael Averill, will be sharing songs and stories from his latest album, “All We Ever Need,” at the Alma United Church on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. It is the follow up to the wandering minstrel’s previous release, “I’d Rather Walk,” which has taken him on an exploration of Canada by foot. To date, he has covered just over 2,500 miles of the country, and will continue until he has connected with every province and territory. This month he has been playing on the Newfoundland ferry and after a number of concerts in Nova Scotia will be heading back to British Columbia playing on the train all the way home.
“Michael has a pied piper quality to him. He is a community builder, scene creator, and movement organizer,” Chris Brandt, Executive Director of Music Heals Onstage has said of him. “He is a teacher and inspirational leader that has the ability to gather the arts community around him, and take them in directions they might not achieve on their own.”
Averill’s performance versatility ranges from gritty slide blues, to delicate finger-style folk, to driving a cappella shanties about mismatched socks.
