Stellarton clerk retiring after 48 years with town
“The Town of Stellarton will miss her, her work ethic and her dedication to the job. Enjoy your retirement, Joyce, you’ve earned it.” Stellarton Mayor Danny MacGillivray
With “a little bit of a heavy heart,” Stellarton Mayor Danny MacGillivray announced at Monday’s council meeting, that longtime town clerk Joyce Eaton is retiring.
Eaton started working for the town on June 15, 1969.
“She has put the town of Stellarton first for 48 years,” he said.
MacGillivray said he has worked with Eaton in a number of capacities over the years – as chairperson of the Pictou County Fuel Fund in 2005-2006, as an employee of the town in 2008 and since 2016 as mayor.
“She’s competent and knowledgeable, and she knew the history of every file here in the town.”
Deputy Mayor Simon Lawand said he appreciated Eaton’s help over his three years on council. “Joyce, it was a pleasure working with you.”
Coun. Bryan Knight noted that “she always had the town’s best interest at heart.”
MacGillivray said no strict timeline is associated with her departure, but council intends to find a permanent replacement as soon as possible.
“The Town of Stellarton will miss her, her work ethic and her dedication to the job,” he said.
“Enjoy your retirement, Joyce, you’ve earned it.”
