NEW GLASGOW – Robert “Bob” Gray Lorimer McKean, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in New Glasgow on Sept. 16, 1926, he was the only child of the late Fulton and Nan (Annie Lorimer) McKean. In

July 1957, he married the love of his life, Anne McGrath. Dad was predecease­d by Mum in 2012. They were totally devoted to each other and their family, raising two daughters: Catherine (Boyd Greene) and Susan Higgs.

Dad was a life-long resident of New Glasgow. After graduation from high school, he worked at Jackson’s Drug Store. He was very fortunate to be able to attend Dalhousie University, graduating from the School of Pharmacy in 1952. Dad’s pharmacy career began at Henry MacDonald’s Drug Store, Provost Street, New Glasgow. In 1972, Mr. MacDonald sold his business and he and Dad became employees of Lawtons (formerly Balcom Chittick). Dad retired from Lawtons in May 1992. He enjoyed the relationsh­ips he built with the community working in his profession.

Papa was extremely proud of his grandchild­ren: Alexander, Caroline and Allison Higgs; Marianne (Kris Svendsen) and Hannah Greene. He was totally devoted to their care and upbringing. There are no words to describe just how much love he had for his family.

He was a life-long member of Trinity Church where he previously served as an Elder and a member of the Board of Stewards. He was a member of the Abercrombi­e Golf Club. He loved golf and continued to play well into his 80s.

Dad’s last residence was Glen Haven Manor where he received excellent care and attention. He enjoyed the new relationsh­ips he made there and the activities that were available to him.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiatin­g. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
