Colin “CJ” Joseph MacInnis
NEW GLASGOW — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colin “CJ” Joseph MacInnis of New Glasgow on November 10, 2017. Collie was born February 20, 1951; he was a son of Roland and Marjorie (Hoare) MacInnis.
Collie was an electrician and instrumentation technician. After returning from British Columbia, he worked at Sheehan Electric, the Westray Coal Mine, Trenton Works, and Exxon Mobil. He received the Medal of Bravery following the Westray explosion in 1992 for his role as a draegerman.
Collie was a true sports enthusiast who was a diehard Leafs fan and never missed a game. He enjoyed watching his son, Ivan’s hockey games and spent some of his time coaching. He also enjoyed playing hockey himself, along with playing baseball, rugby and curling.
Collie was a very family-oriented man who loved being surrounded by family and friends. He had two beautiful step-children, Phillip and Allison, and was a proud Papa to two adorable granddaughters and his chosen grandson Nathan. He was often found hunting and fishing at the lake with his brothers, nephews and friends. While spending time with his family, he always enjoyed a good game of cards. Collie and Hannah enjoyed hosting family gatherings at the Ponds and at their home. He always looked forward to his annual family Boxing Day celebration.
He was a devoted member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. Collie was a well-known member of the Elks Lodge No. 226 and Bombers Athletic Club in New Glasgow. His love for children led him to fundraising with the Elks Lodge for the Royal Purple Fund for Children.
Collie is now reunited with his beloved son, Ivan Roderick MacInnis, who passed away on February 10, 1996. He is also predeceased by his parents Roland and Marjorie (Hoare) MacInnis, and nephew Jimmy Chabassol.
He is survived by his loving partner and soul-mate, Hannah Fennell and step-children: Phillip (Lisa) Holmes and Allison (Kevin) Cooke. Collie’s brothers and sisters loved him dearly. He is survived by his brothers: Roland,
New Glasgow; Chuck (Christine) Trenton; Mike (Kim) New Glasgow; Doug (Carolyn) Linacy; his sisters: Joan (Wayne) Crane, Little Harbor; Jean (Jamie) Burns, New Glasgow; Christine (Roland) Babinec, Pictou; Marge (Donnie) Sangster, New Glasgow. He was loved by his grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he held dear and loved to hear of their accomplishments.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors at the Aberdeen Hospital, along with the VON, who took exceptional care of Collie over the past few years.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral mass 2 p.m. Wednesday, in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow, with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
