Scotians split with Miners, stay on pace

-

TRENTON — The Pictou County Scotians split a weekend series against the Glace Bay Miners, with both teams winning on the road. On Sunday night in Trenton, the Scotians had a chance to sweep the two-game set, but the Miners would avenge a Friday loss with a 3-1 victory. Robert Burrows had the only goal for Pictou County, while Glace Bay got two power play goals from Mitchell Johnston and a Kelly Yates empty-netter to nail down the win.

The Scotians (8-3-3) are now six points behind the Miners (12-2-1), owners of first place in the Sid Rowe Division. Friday’s game in Cape Breton saw Jeremy McFarlane, Jacob Pentz and Colin Holmes (short-handed) record the goals in a 3-2 Scotians win. Yates and Jacob Keagan countered for Glace Bay.

Pentz and McFarlane share the Scotians’ goal-scoring lead with 10 apiece.

The Scotians will travel to Cumberland County this coming Friday to play the Blues, before a Sunday home date versus the East Hants Penguins.
