Sco­tians split with Min­ers, stay on pace

TREN­TON — The Pic­tou County Sco­tians split a week­end se­ries against the Glace Bay Min­ers, with both teams win­ning on the road. On Sun­day night in Tren­ton, the Sco­tians had a chance to sweep the two-game set, but the Min­ers would avenge a Fri­day loss with a 3-1 vic­tory. Robert Bur­rows had the only goal for Pic­tou County, while Glace Bay got two power play goals from Mitchell John­ston and a Kelly Yates empty-net­ter to nail down the win.

The Sco­tians (8-3-3) are now six points be­hind the Min­ers (12-2-1), own­ers of first place in the Sid Rowe Di­vi­sion. Fri­day’s game in Cape Bre­ton saw Jeremy McFarlane, Ja­cob Pentz and Colin Holmes (short-handed) record the goals in a 3-2 Sco­tians win. Yates and Ja­cob Kea­gan coun­tered for Glace Bay.

Pentz and McFarlane share the Sco­tians’ goal-scor­ing lead with 10 apiece.

The Sco­tians will travel to Cum­ber­land County this com­ing Fri­day to play the Blues, be­fore a Sun­day home date ver­sus the East Hants Pen­guins.
