Peewee AA Crushers take over second in league

The Peewee AA Crushers are showing their might early in the season in Nova Scotia Mainland League play with a record of 5-12.

On Nov. 11-12, they completed a home-and-home matchup with the Cumberland County Ramblers.

The first game was a 3-3 tie with the Ramblers at Oxford Arena; the Crushers were leading 3-0 after two periods, only to have the Ramblers come back with three unanswered goals in the third to pull off a tie.

Scoring for the Crushers were Levon Walst, Cole Thompson and Wyatt Spence with singles, assists coming off the sticks of Spence and Colby Nichol.

The next day saw the Crushers soundly defeat the Ramblers 5-3 at the Westville Sports Centre. Scoring for the home squad were Walst with a pair, while Spence, Thompson and Landon Steele had singles. Assists went to Zachary MacInnis with two and singles helpers from Steele and Walst.

The Crushers next faced the Acadian Axemen in Kentville for a game Saturday afternoon Nov. 18. The game saw the Pictou County offence explode in a 7-0 win.

Scoring for the home squad were Mac Wallace, Blake MacLennan, Clint MacLaughli­n, John K Martin, Walst, Nichol and Steele, assists going to Walst, Wallace and Spence with two each, and singles helpers coming from MacLennan, MacLaughli­n and MacInnis.

The Crushers defence all played a tight game, while being backed up with solid goaltendin­g from Jacob MacLeod.

The second game of the weekend saw the Crushers face off against the West Hants Warriors for a battle for second place in the Mainland Peewee AA League. The Crushers won the contest 4-1.

Scoring for the Crushers were MacLennan, Spence, Walst and Nichol.

Cole Battist was solid between the pipes for the Crushers in the win.

The Peewee AAs next see action this weekend at the Riverview Minor Hockey Fall Classic Tournament in Riverview, N.B.
