Peewee AA Crushers win Mike Schmitt Tournament

The Peewee AA Crushers are the 2017 KFC – Mike Schmitt Tournament champions.

The Crushers opened the tournament in Truro with a 4-2 loss to the Yarmouth Mariners, who were seeking revenge after being sweep at home by the Crushers a few weeks earlier.

Scoring for the Crushers were Wyatt Spence and Landon Steele. The only assist came from Brennen Hood. Blake MacLennan was player of the game.

Next, the Crushers were back to their winning ways with a 4-0 win over the Acadia Axemen. Scoring for the Crushers were Colby Nichol with two, Zach MacInnis and Spence with singles. Assists came from John K Martin (2), Kayden Moulasion, Steele and Blake MacLennan. Jacob MacLeod was rock solid in nets to get the shutout and was named player of the game.

On Saturday, the Crushers were in Brookfield against a familiar foe in the West Hants Warriors. The Crushers came to play, beating the Warriors 4-2. Scoring for the Crushers were Moulasion, Levon Walst, Clint MacLaughli­n and Ben Marchand. Assists were recorded by Nichol (2), Spence and Martin. Cole Battist played very well for the Crushers in the victory and Clint MacLaughli­n was player of game.

With that win, Pictou County finished first out of six teams in the round robin with a record of 2-1 and got a bye to the championsh­ip game against Acadia.

Coach Dave Hood had the Crushers ready to play and they did not disappoint, scoring early and often with a 6-1 win. Landon Steele led the way for the Crushers with a hat trick, MacInnis scored twice and Martin scored the final goal to seal Acadia’s fate. Assists came off the sticks of Hood (3), MacInnis (2), Moulasion and Nichol. Landon Steele was player of the game.

The Crushers improved to 224-2 for the season and next see action when they resume Mainland League play against the Truro Bearcats on Jan. 6 in Truro.
