M. Agnes MacDonald, 102, of New Glasgow, formerly of Antigonish and Bailey’s Brook, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.

Born in Springfiel­d, Antigonish County, she was the second daughter of the late Will and Mary (MacDonald) Bowie.

Agnes married John James (Johnnie Lewis) in 1940 and they settles in Bailey’s Brook and raised their seven children there, as well as two foster sons. Agnes loved reading, nature, dogs, playing cards, especially with children, teaching Catechism, her telephone and visiting. She especially enjoyed visits that involved young children. Agnes never turned down an offer to visit her beloved Springfiel­d. She was always guided by her strong Catholic faith.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Suzanne), Surrey, BC, and Francis, Port Moody, BC, two daughters, Mary (Roy) Simpson, Murrieta, CA, and Margaret (Ian) Rhyno, MacLellan’s Brook; daughters-in-law, Catherine MacDonald, Pine Tree, and Donna Rennie-MacDonald, Antigonish, foster son, Ray (Cathy) Johnson, Richmond, BC, and her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren, numerous nieces and nephews and neighbour children who were as close as her own.

She was predecease­d by her husband, John “Johnnie Lewis”, sons, Lewis, Rod and Doug, son-in-law, Ian MacDonald, daughters-in-law, Nora and June, and foster son, Ben Johnson, sister, Jenny (Charlie) Chisholm, and brother, John D. (Veronica) Bowie.

Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, in St Mary’s Church, Lismore, Rev. Colin MacKinnon presiding, burial in the parish cemetery.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Glen Haven Manor, for their kindness and care given to Agnes the past three years. Family flowers only please, donations to the Karen MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society or charity of choice.
