Winter Blast Festival returns to deCoste

The second annual Winter Blast Festival is back at the deCoste Performing Arts Centre.

This year’s event features performers from around the world with the first show of the Winter Blast featuring Susan Aglukark, opening the festival on Jan. 29.

The Winter Blast Festival will present a wide variety of entertainm­ent, including Hotel California, an Eagles Tribute, on Feb. 6 followed by Shane Howard, a folk singer from Australia on Feb. 10. The Classical Series is back as part of the Festival with the VC2 Cello Duo on Feb. 15.

March is busy with a performanc­e by the South African dance troupe Black Umfolosi on March 3 and indigenous performers William Prince and Digging Roots will be on stage March 10 as part of the continuing Canada 150 series.Rave On: The Buddy Holly Story comes to the Centre on March 13 followed by the Ladom Ensemble on March 18.

Another in the Canada 150 series, H’Sao African Rhythms perform on March 20 and standup comedian Derek Sequin will perform on March 23. The Winter Blast Festival concludes with the third annual Spring Gala, Phantom of the Opera the Ballet, on Saturday, March 24.

A special ‘Winter Blast Pass’ is available that gives access to all performanc­es and also a special ‘Buy any three tickets for just $80’ promotion.

Tickets for all Winter Blast events are on sale now at the deCoste box office or online at www.decostecen­tre.ca. Call 902485-8848 for more informatio­n. The box office will be open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the month of January and will resume regular hours in February.
