Suspicious man approached 10-year-old girls, police say

-

Police are asking for the public’s help in a case involving a suspicious man who approached two young girls.

According to police, shortly after 4 p.m. on Jan. 18, a man in a silver-coloured SUV stopped just ahead of two 10-year-old girls who were walking along Stellarton-Trafalgar Road.

The vehicle waited for about a minute, then continued toward Stellarton.

The vehicle came back in the opposite direction, turned and again approached the girls. They jumped over a small embankment and into a field.

The driver, an older balding man with grey hair and a mustache, asked the girls to come up and close a door on his vehicle. He was alone.

He repeated his request a few times, becoming more aggressive each time the girls yelled “no” at him.

The SUV left the area and the girls were not harmed.

As the SUV left the area, police say a passing vehicle occupied by two women stopped and asked the girls if they were OK. The girls told them “yes” and the women left.

Pictou District RCMP is asking anyone with information about the driver of the silver SUV to call them at 902-755-4141 or 1-800803-RCMP (7267). They would particularly like to speak with the women in the passing vehicle who checked on the girls, or anyone else who may have witnessed this incident.
