Bantam AA season winding down

The Pictou County Bantam AA Crushers had a hard-fought weekend in two games with Cumberland.

On Saturday at the Pictou County Wellness Center, the first period ended tied at one, but the second period saw five goals scored, with the lead changing hands three times and ending with Cumberland up 4-3 which is how the game ended.

Jacob Fraser was in nets for Pictou County.

In Oxford on Sunday, the Crushers opened the scoring, Cumberland tied it but the Crushers added a late one by crashing the net, making it 2-1. Despite running into penalty trouble, the Crushers ended the second period trailing 3-2. Cumberland scored two in the third making it 5-2, but Pictou County refused to go away. Even with a depleting bench the Crushers added 2 late goals but ran out of time, leaving with a 5-4 loss. Xander Vohs was between the pipes.

On Tuesday night, the Crushers had their final meeting with the Antigonish Bulldogs of the regular season. Pictou County had a strong opening period and scored twice, while holding Antigonish off the scoreboard. They added an early goal in the second but Antigonish scored two late goals to end the second 3-2 for Crushers.

The third period Pictou County pulled away with three more goals until the Bulldogs scored twice on the power play for a 6-4 final.

Jacob Fraser took the win in nets.

Crusher goal-scorers in recent games were Ross Martin (4), Cam MacKinnon (3), Myles Farnsworth (2), with singles from Adam Farrell and Covey Cameron, Ryan Denny and Chris Avery. Assist went to Martin (3), Avery (2), Farnsworth (2) and singles by Denny, Cameron, Farrell, Brent Chapman, Dylan Kontuk, Jacoby Beadle, Tanner Steele and Adam Fraser.

Next weekend, the Bantam AA Crushers will play South Shore Saturday and Sunday will finish off their regular season on the road against Truro.
