Sentence delayed for Stellarton man

-

A Stellarton man will need to wait until next month to find out how he will serve his jail time.

Jonathan Lloyd Langille, 36, of Stellarton was being sentenced Monday in Pictou provincial court on two charges of possession of cocaine and one count of illegal possession of a firearm when the hearing was adjourned.

Langille was arrested Nov. 21, 2017, after the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Unit received a tip about Langille having a gun in the Stellarton home. Langille has court orders from previous convictions to not possess a weapon.

The court was told that an officer executed a search warrant on Nov. 21 during which time they seized a needle with cocaine in it as well as a dime bag filled with cocaine. They also seized ammunition located in various locations of the home, as well as sawed-off shotgun.

Langille was arrested and when he was being searched for admittance into the North Eastern Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Priestville on Nov. 22, corrections officers found a small bag of cocaine, containing 1.5 grams of cocaine, in his sock. It was seized and he was charged with a second count of possession.

The defence and crown agreed to a joint recommendation of 45 days jail time which would start March 9 when Langille’s current sentence for breeching a conditional sentence order expires. The Crown and defence agreed the 45 days in jail could be served on an intermittent basis and would be followed by nine months probation.

Judge Del Atwood postponed the sentencing until March 8 so he could determine if an intermitted sentence was allowed by law or if it had to be served straight time.
