Three local councillors support Cecil Clarke

Three Pictou County councillors have announced they’re endorsing Cecil Clarke in his bid for leader of the Progressive Conservative party.

Municipality of Pictou County councillor Darla MacKeil and Stellarton councillors Garry Pentz, and Bryan Knight officially endorsed Clarke this week.

MacKeil says Clarke’s natural leadership ability and experience in government make him the best choice to propel Nova Scotia forward.

“Cecil is ready to lead, not only the Tory party but our province. Cecil’s experience in local government offers a unique perspective into the needs of municipalities and how we can better support rural communities,” says MacKeil.

“The people of Nova Scotia deserve a leader and a government that is experienced, compassionate and responsive to our values. Cecil understands the needs and challenges facing us all.”

Pentz, a 17-year veteran of Stellarton council, says the relationship between Pictou’s municipal units and the province has been steadily deteriorating, and it’s time to turn things around with strong, positive leadership.

“I have discussed our problems with Cecil Clarke and I feel strongly that he is the right person for the job,” says Pentz.

Knight, who serves with Pentz on Stellarton council, says under the Liberals, Pictou has become a forgotten county. He says a change in direction requires a hands-on, experienced leader.

“Cecil Clarke understands our battles. He has been in the trenches, fighting the roadblocks and red tape,” says Knight. “His entry into this leadership race gives us hope.”

Clarke says he is humbled by the strong support from local officials in Pictou.
