Pictou County Athletics repeat as Atlantic Indoor club champs

Pictou County Athletics (PCA) competitor­s took part in the Atlantic Indoor Championsh­ips in Moncton on Saturday.

Athletes from the Masters program and the 13+ team competed in the hopes of achieving their best performanc­es of the indoor season. The team would repeat as the Atlantic Indoor Club champions.

PCA had 30 athletes take part in the track and field meet and individual PCA athletes did very well in all discipline­s of the sport, including some of the following highlights:

■ Lauren MacLeod won both the 60m sprint and 200 m in the girls 16 and 17 age category

■ Cale Bonvie won the high jump and 300m and 2nd in the triple jump in the boys 14 and 15 age category.

■ Keighan DeCoff won both the shot put and weight throw in the girls 14 and 15.

■ Parker Swain won the shot put and 2nd in the weight throw in the 16 and 17.

■ Matt MacLeod won the shot put and weight throw in the 14 and 15.

■ Raymond Simpson won the 800 m in the 18 and 19.

■ Jordyn Ferguson finished 2nd in the 300m.

■ Danielle MacKay finished 2nd in both the 800 and 1500 m races.

■ Cara MacDonald finished 1st in the 800m just nipping out teammate Kristen Ross by 8 one hundreds of a second. Cara also finished 2nd in U16 girls shot put and a 3rd in 60m hurdles.

■ Kristen Ross and teammate Eilidh Cameron tied for 2nd in the U 16 girls high jump. She also had a 2nd place finish in the 60m U16 hurdles.

■ John Luc Taylor had a 3rd place finish in the U18 boys 200m.

■ Duncan Cameron finished 2nd in the U18 boys 800m and won the U18 boys long jump.

■ Hunter Francis had a 2nd finish in the U20 mens 800m.

■ Ethan MacDonald won the U18 boys high jump.

■ One of the of the PCA`s highlights of the winter indoor season for 2018 was Cara MacDonald breaking two Athletics Nova Scotia indoor bantam records. She broke the 800m record with a time of 2:27.63 on Jan. 20 in Halifax and then on Feb. 10, she bested her own indoor 600m bantam record with a time of 1:43.65, eclipsing five seconds off her then-record time.

PCA’s Trailblaze­rs (ages 9-12) competed in the Indoor Atlantics Run, Jump, Throw and Wheel Championsh­ips in Moncton. The team had some great results:

■ Gavin MacCallum – U10: 5th in 60m, 4th in 300m, 2nd in Shot put.

■ Isaac Boudreau – U12: had 3rd in 60m, 3rd in 150m, 3rd in the long jump and 2nd in the shot put.

■ Chloe Ferguson – U12: had 5th in 150, 7th in 600m, 6th in long jump and 9th in shot put.

■ Amelia MacCallum – U12: had 1st in 60m, 3rd in 600m, 3rd in the shot put.

■ Amelia Boudreau – U 14: had 6th in 60, 4th in 150m, tied for 2nd in the long jump and 4th in shot put.
