Westville Heritage learns about accessible parking permits

Members met in the Heritage Room on March 5 for the regular meeting. As the music played, all stood facing the flag and sang O Canada and Heritage song and recited the Heritage prayer. President Nellie Bruton brought the meeting to order. She asked if there were any birthdays this month — three were celebratin­g their special day.

Nellie told the group that one of the members had taken a serious fall. We will keep her in our prayers and hope for a speedy recovery.

Mary Livingston­e read the minutes of the previous meeting and Mary Morris presented the financial report. Both reports were approved as given. Several items of business were dealt with. Under correspond­ence, Mary reported that there were three thank-you cards received.

Activities report: art class meets on Tuesday; bowling on Wednesday; exercise class going very well; ukulele is very busy. Plans for the closing supper were discussed. April’s meeting will be cancelled as that day is Easter Monday.

The meeting was adjourned and the group welcomed Donna Cooper. Donna gave a report on homelessne­ss in Pictou County. Everyone enjoyed a nice lunch.

Accessible Parking, Licence Plates and Permits – Service Nova Scotia, through the Registry of Motor Vehicles, distribute­s accessible parking plates and permits to qualified individual­s. A physician’s referral is required. There is no charge associated with a permanent or temporary accessible parking permit, which is displayed on the rear-view mirror. However, regular registrati­on fees must be in order to place an Accessible Parking Identifica­tion Plate on a vehicle or motorcycle, and the applicant must be the plate owner and principal operator of the vehicle or motorcycle. Cleanup day in Pictou County will be held April 21.

On April 9, “Marla” from Pictou County Waste Management will be special speaker at Westville Heritage Group.

A little boy was asked how he learned to skate. He replied: “Oh, by getting up every time I fall down.”
