Dr. Caroline Carmichael Chapter IODE plans basket draw

The Dr. Caroline Carmichael Chapter IODE held its meeting at the UCT building, Summer Street Industries, on March 20.

Vice President Joan Fraser chaired the meeting in the absence of President Gale Langille. The meeting opened by repeating the IODE prayer. Eleven members responded to roll call and 387 volunteer hours were reported.

Secretary Isabel Campbell read the minutes of the February meeting, which were approved as read.

Members will begin selling tickets on a gift certificat­e basket valued at $300. Tickets will be sold the last week of April and the month of May. The draw will be June 12 at the chapter’s closing dinner.

Plans are being finalized on for a coffee party to be held at the UCT building on Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m. Audrey MacGillivr­ay and Phoebe Fraser will convene this event. Tickets can be purchased from members.

Correspond­ence was received from the New Glasgow Music Festival committee requesting prize money for the festival. A donation was approved for the festival.

Service officer Helen Cruickshan­k reported receiving hats, mittens and scarves from knitters. Longtime knitter Bernice Rockey is not able to knit for the Mitts for Kids group. She was a knitter for 25 years. The chapter will remember her.

Membership officer Jeannie Johnston read a poem entitled “Come Sit With Me.”

In the absence of treasurer Jean Arsenault, Vice President Joan Fraser gave the financial report, which was accepted.

Vice President Joan Fraser adjourned the meeting and social hour followed. Refreshmen­ts were served by Isabel Campbell and Phyllis Humphries. April committee will be Mary Romsa and Priscilla Ewoye.
