Kitchen party pub headed to NG Academy
The public is invited to rock out and get in a few pints at the fourth annual East Coast Kitchen Party at New Glasgow Academy on April 14.
Local entertainers on the set list include Jason Brushett, Jer Mombo, The Leah and Kyle Collective, Niki Veniot, Kitchen Criminals and the Dirty Rokkin Scoundrels.
“We’re fortunate to have so much musical talent in the county,” said organizer Tammy MacLaren. “It’s a big fundraiser for the school and what we do with the money raised, because it goes to the music and art programs and the Panther Pantry.”
Funds are put toward mental health initiatives.
The money raised also pays for things such as a yearbook for students and the end-of-year trip.
Organizers this year are hoping to raise about $10,000 for the school and its 535 students.
MacLaren said that such fundraising is vital for children’s education as the province has cut funding in recent years.
One of the academy’s music rooms will be named in honour of this year’s performers for the next year until the 2019 fundraiser.
“The kids benefit and that’s huge. This is one of the biggest fundraisers,” said MacLaren.
Volunteers from the Royal Bank of Canada will be working at this event.
Individual tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from the New Glasgow Scotiabank.
At time of writing there are still two eight-seat tables available. Each table costs $200 and one drink for each guest is included in the price. The fundraiser runs from 4:30 to 9 p.m. in the academy’s gym, which is being redecorated for the evening by Rocklin Parties. As alcohol will be served at this fundraiser, it is open only to those 19 and over.
