TRAVEL COMPANIONS
Imagine a team trying to cross several countries in Europe and relying on cans of Red Bull for monetary currency
A college student from Pictou County along with two others from Acadia University are competing against more than 200 other teams from 60 countries around the world in the Red Bull Can You Make it? Challenge.
Gabrielle Bailey, who is from Pictou County and is currently studying business at Acadia University, signed up along with Kinnon Job and Lexi Pullen. Their Team Sorry was chosen from among thousands of applicants from around the world. They are one of only three Canadian Teams in the competition.
The way the competition works is the teams have seven days to travel across Europe using only cans of Red Bull as currency. Each team starts with 24 cans of Red Bull.
Red Bull describes it as a journey of adventure, charm and strategy.
Bailey’s father Kirk said he is excited for his daughter to have this tremendous opportunity. “It’s a great adventure,” he said. He said his daughter and her teammates were placed in Madrid to begin the challenge which has teams starting from five different locations and ending in Amsterdam. He’s been following her progress online which shows how many kilometres the teams have travelled. At the start of the day Wednesday she was within 60 km of where she started, but after trading three cans of RedBull for train tickets, she had travelled 1,866 km.
Distance isn’t the only measure of the challenge. Participants also earn adventure points by completing as many tasks as possible on the Adventure List and receiving support from their followers back home. The winning team will get to experience an immersive, oncein-a-lifetime experience from Destination Red Bull which offers a variety of trips and experiences to choose from.
Whether she wins or not, Kirk Bailey said he couldn’t be more proud of his daughter for taking this challenge and loves to see the smile on her face as she posts pictures from the trip.
