Women invited to sign up for ‘campaign school’
Women from Pictou County and across the province are being invited to sign up for a three-day workshop on public and political leadership roles.
The Campaign School for Women is running from May 25 to 27 at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. Key topics will include women in politics, diversity, gendered leadership, how to manage social media, develop a brand and fight a political campaign, among others.
“We want to engage more women as elected leaders to advance gender equality in Nova Scotia,” said Kelly Regan, minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, in a release Thursday.
The campaign school’s aim is to increase the numbers and diversity of women in leadership.
The program prepares graduates to run for public office, organize campaigns, or pursue non-elected political roles.
Regan said it will empower and support women to become leaders in government.
The campaign school itself is shaped by a collaboration between Diverse Voices for Change and the province.
“Having a campaign school that is inclusive of all women, and that helps Indigenous, African Nova Scotian and racialized women develop strategies to deal with the barriers they face, is critical in providing all women politicians with the tools they need to launch a successful campaign,” said Tracey Jones-Grant, managing director of Halifax Regional Municipality’s office of diversity and inclusion.
The workshop is free but applicants are encouraged to sign up early as spaces are limited.
