- Submitted

The Caledonian Show will open its 2018 concert season with a performance on April 28, 7:30 p.m., in the Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton.

Also performing at the Stellarton concert will be Retake, a fourpart barbershop quartet from Prince Edward Island, featuring Anne Crosby, Raye Trainor, Joanne Ings and Shirley Mcguigan. Formed in 1999, the quartet’s repertoire includes songs from the 1950s, contemporary music as well as Irish and Scottish tunes.

Also performing at the concert will be the Caledonian Show Dancers.

The Caledonian Orchestra was formed in 1993 and consists of some 35 musicians playing violins, flutes, accordions, cellos, bass, keyboard, percussion and pipes. Orchestra members come from Metro Halifax, Hants, Colchester, Cumberland and Pictou counties as well as New Brunswick.

They volunteer their time and talent giving benefit concerts to raise money for various charities.

The orchestra has performed at various venues throughout the Maritime provinces as well as Stratford, Ont. They have released four CDs; their latest, One Hundred Thousand Welcomes, will be available at their concerts.

When the Scots left the highlands and villages of their homeland in the 18th and 19th centuries they brought with them their fiddles, drums and pipes to keep alive the traditional music and culture of Scotland. The Caledonian Orchestra through its concerts and CDs is continuing that tradition by keeping alive the culture of old Scotland for present and future generations of new Scotland.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door.
