Need to look at long-term effect

-

To the editor,

Are Canadians not looking at the long-term effects of pulp waste pollution in our water, with Northumberland Strait bordering the Town of Pictou, New Glasgow, Pictou Landing, Boat Harbour (already polluted by pulp waste), for short-term financial gain? Consider the damage to our non-renewable water, as potable water (clean drinking and washing water) is now at less than one half of one per cent worldwide.

With 23 right whales dying in the Atlantic Ocean last summer, are we blind to the fact that something indeed is wrong in our ecological system.

It is seriously affecting our fragile water supply which is vital to the life of every species, human, animal, mammal – all forms of marine life depend on clean water to survive!

Either we are completely ignorant of facts or digging our heads into the sand, denying the facts!

The truth sets us free, and we are seeing our earth destroyed by our own careless lack of appropriate action and indifference to the truth!

Scientists have pointed out that animal species are dying.

There is something seriously wrong and we as Canadians instead of valuing our earth and our resources have sold out for short-term employment with foreign investors who couldn’t care less about our land. They will simply pull out and move on to the next greedy financial venture to deplete another nation’s resources once the damage is done – resources that we should have maintained for future generations!

This is something to take positive action on before it is too late, especially since water is a very vital substance for our human existence and for animal life!
