With heavy hearts, the family of Mary Ann Hamilton (MacLeod) Cunningham announce her passing on Sunday, April 15th, in her 98th year. Born in Six Mile Brook on July 22nd, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Neil and Mary Ann (Hamilton) MacLeod.

Sadly, her mother passed when she was two days old, but she didn’t lack for love or attention because of the care she received from her Aunt Bobby. After attending school at New Glasgow High, she went on to the Maritime Business College and obtained employment at Johnson and MacDonald Ltd.

In 1944 she married W. Fraser Cunningham. Together they establishe­d Cunningham’s Grocery in Alma and became proud parents of three sons and three daughters.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, daughters, Joanne; Janice; and Lynn (Marc Bourassa); sons, Neil (Sharon); Gary (Sharon); grandchild­ren, Michelle Cunningham; Robyn (David) Wilson; Starr Cunningham (Nick Peters); Stacey Cunningham (Mark Hubert); Shannon Cunningham (Harrison Keenan); David Cunningham; Jodi (Andrew) Calder; Jill (Brian) Van Veld; Thomas McCallum (Veronica Curran); Oliver McCallum; Mallory Malloy; great-grandchild­ren, Connor and Emma Hines; Zackery, Nate and Annika Wilson; Nick and Lily Dobson; Ivy Calder; Mary Jo, Evan, William and Kelly Wynn Van Veld; daughterin-law, Linda; half-sister, Helen (Bob) Hanes; niece, Ann Slater.

Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by husband, Fraser; son, Allan; and special friend, Dan Hansford.

Mary’s family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiatin­g.
