Riverfront Jubilee

Lineup announced for Aug. 3-5 musical event which includes headliners Jimmy Rankin, July Talk and Matthew Good

-

Matthew Good, July Talk and Jimmy Rankin will headline this year’s Riverfront Jubilee and will be Rockin’ The River from Aug. 3 to 5.

The 23rd annual Riverfront Jubilee begins Friday night and opens with Nova Scotian Jimmy Rankin as the evening’s headliner. Rankin, is an award-winning solo artist and lead singer, guitarist and songwriter behind The Rankin Family.

Joining Rankin on stage Friday will be Alert The Medic. The Halifax-based band will bring its melodic lyrics and heart pumping tunes, sure to entertain any crowd. Completing the Friday night lineup is Pictou County’s own StoneHouse and The Kitchen Criminals.

With over 11 albums and over 20 Juno Awards nominations, Saturday night’s headliner Matthew Good is sure to “Rock the River” as he plays songs from his 20 years in the music industry, as well as some new songs from his recently released ninth solo album “Something Like a Storm.”

The seven-piece soul-funk band Roxy & the Underground Soul Sound will also be featured Saturday night. The band’s beats mixed with lead singer Roxy’s powerhouse vocals, will deliver a soulful, straight from the heart performance.

Sunday night will be one night not to be missed with July Talk headlining. This Toronto-based strikes a balance between Americana and indie-rock that leaves you wanting more.

Calgary’s Reuben and the Dark will join July Talk on Sunday night. This band is a collection of five multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, led by Reuben Bullock. The group makes emotional folk and soul mixed tracks, which highlight both sadness and joy.

Sunday night will also feature Indie Pop songstress Natalie Lynn, who will get everyone dancing and singing with her unforgettable music.

The Jubilee family lost one of its own in 2017, Carlton Munroe, Riverfront jubilee executive director, when he tragically lost his battle with Glioblastoom.

“The loss of Carlton this past year was a hard one to stomach for the board — not only did we lose a key member of our Jubilee family, but we also individually lost a great and loyal friend,” said Jubilee Chair Michelle MacLean. “Though the Jubilee won’t feel the same without Carlton, the board of directors continues to keep him in our thoughts at every meeting and every time we talk about the Jubilee in the community. We hope he would be as proud of this year’s lineup so far, as we are.”
