Hazel C. Falconer

TONEY RIVER – Hazel Catherine (Sutherland) Falconer, 100, formerly from Toney River, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 3, 2018, with her granddaughters and niece by her side, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, where she was a resident for 15 years.

Hazel was born July 17, 1917, to John William and Matilda Sutherland.

Hazel was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother (Bammie), great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved to spend time and be with her family. She enjoyed telling stories of when she was a young girl following her father, John Willie the horse trader, around on the family farm. Hazel worked at the cookhouse in Toney River, and talked about large feeds they would prepare for the fishermen. On Feb. 17, 1937, she married her dancing partner and soulmate, Wilfred. They were married for 68 years. They would attend many dances over their married life. Hazel was an amazing housekeeper, cook, quilter, and whistler.

She will be lovingly remembered by her granddaughters, Bevereley (Paul) Heighton, Kathy (Tom) Swaine, Toney River; daughter-in-law, Ann, Pictou; great-granddaughters, Allison (Billy) Rhynard, Halifax; Nicole Redmond (Justin), Toney River; sisters, Jean Henderson, Toney River; Florence MacDonald, Division Road; nieces and nephews.

Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred; son, John MacNee “Mackie”; brother, Austin (Doris); sister, Edna (Elwood) MacDonald; brothers-in-law, Allister Henderson and Kenny MacDonald; a brother and a sister (Jessie) in infancy; several nephews and a niece.

Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m., with Funeral to follow at 2 p.m. Monday in St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Toney River. Burial will be in Riverbank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Riverbank Cemetery, or the Toney River Community Hall. www.mclarenfuneral.ca. Her words…
