Musical weekend
Pictou’s de Coste Centre has a great lineup for the upcoming long weekend along with a great deal on tickets
The deCoste Performing Arts Centre has an exciting lineup and special offer to kick-start the long weekend.
On Friday, May 18 songwriter, composer, and performer Annie Lou, and her band comprised of Collins, Hamilton, and Heineman will be at the deCoste to launch their latest CD. Executive director Troy Greencorn says he wants to give as many patrons as possible the opportunity to experience the grace, humour and warmth of Annie Lou’s performance, so is offering a two for the prices of one special on tickets.
“The deCoste encourages you to invite your friends to come listen as Lou and her band deliver her original music that has a deeply felt connection to older folk music traditions,” Greencorn said in a press release.
“With guitar and banjo in hand, she has spent years chronicling the rural and urban life paths of Canada, writing songs to tell the tales of the hard-hit, hard-won victories of men and women. Lou’s songs are a map of harddrinking grandmas, rural dancehalls, blue collar fashions, small towns, big cities.”
Saturday night Matt Minglewood will be in the house at the deCoste delivering another performance that will include a bit of blues, country and some rock and roll, a classic style of the East Coast icon. Minglewood arrives following the announcement of his wins at the ECMA’s for Blues Recording of the Year for Fly Like Desperados, as well as Fan’s Choice Entertainer of
the Year. As Minglewood was unable to attend the awards presentations, the deCoste staff have been asked by the ECMA organization to make the presentation of these awards to him during his performance on May 19. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the box office at 902-485-8848; 1-800-3535338, online at decostecentre.ca or by dropping in at 99 Water St., Pictou.
