George William Lochead

George William Lochead, 80, of Sylvester passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital.

Born and raised in Granton, he was the son of the late George and Lula (Leadbeater) Lochead.

George worked on constructi­on sites throughout the province as a millwright and retired from the local pulp mill fifteen years ago. In his younger years, George played fastball and hockey, raced stock cars and loved to fish and hunt. His love of sports and the outdoors was instilled in his children and grandchild­ren. An avid sports fan, George spent many hours watching hockey and baseball on television. An extremely proud father and grandfathe­r, George traveled many miles watching his children and grandchild­ren participat­e in a variety of sports. Upon retirement, George became a fulltime chauffeur for his grandchild­ren taxiing them to school, work or sporting events. George had a special affection for dogs and enjoyed spoiling his own pets as well as the pets of family. Family was very important to George, and the Lochead house became the gathering place for his children and later, his grandchild­ren.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (MacLean); daughter Heather Fillier (Paul), Durham; sons David (Catherine), Sylvester and Mike (Debbie), Alma; daughter-in-law, Kim Lochead, Cape John; grandchild­ren: Matt, Jami and Dylan Fillier; Ashley Richardson, Hillary and George Lochead; Abby and Lane Lochead; Allyson, Luc, Ryan and Marc Lochead; great-grandsons, Nash and Weston; loyal brother Harold (Phylllis), Salt springs and sister Jean (Terry) Vail, St. Catharine’s, ON; sister-in-law, Eileen Emery and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was predecease­d by his son Darryl and his sisters Margaret and Eileen.

A special thank you to the Pictou County VON for their dedication and exceptiona­l care of George.

George is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visitation­s on Wednesday, May 23 at 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. His funeral service will be at 2 PM on Thursday, May 24 from Eagles Funeral Home. Donations in memory of George can be made to Pictou County VON.
