Josephine (MacDonald) Beaton

-

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Josie Beaton, 62, at Dartmouth General Hospital in the company of her family, on May 19, 2018.

Born on November 27, 1955, in Little Judique, N.S., to the late Robert and Mary Ann (MacInnis) MacDonald, Josie was raised in Glencoe with her five siblings. She attended Mabou Consolidated School where she met her future husband, Finley Roddie Beaton. She caught his eye with her step dancing skills and they began dating in August 1978, marrying the following year on July 28. They took up residence in Pictou County where they raised their children and showed them over the years what true love really is.

Josie held various jobs but her main job was caring for her family, always keeping them well fed with her home baked treats, and having the patience to endure many hours of piping and drumming practices during their teenage years. Known as “Nannie” to her grandchildren, they will have fond memories of time spent with her, especially Christmas Eve traditions at Nannie and Grampie’s house, and their summer trips to Antigonish. Josie had a love for crossword puzzles and reading, often finishing a book a day. She enjoyed visiting and long phone calls with friends and was happy to take the trip of a lifetime last fall with Finley, Michael and friends Phil, Harry, Debbie and Harold when they travelled to the Dominican Republic.

Josie is survived by her husband and best friend, Finley, daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Hansford, son Michael (Kelly); grandchildren Keaton, Kelsey, and Duncan; brother, Charlie (Claire) MacDonald, sister-in-law, Mary MacDonald; godson, Robert; niece, Jana, nephews, Brian and Donnie; special friends, Florence and Hughie MacIsaac and Albert and Betty Warner, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She will be missed by her Beaton family and her passing leaves the “outlaws” one team member short. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Johnny, sisters, Anna and Tina, parents in law, John Robert and Mary Elizabeth White.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, N.S. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 25, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home with Father Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Name Cemetery, Westville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery Fund in Glencoe, Inverness County.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital, particularly Dr. LeClerc, Dr. Duke, Stephanie and all the other nurses on 3rd West, for the excellent care given to Josie in her last days.

Also special thanks to family physician Dr. Kirk and our Beaton and MacDonald families for their love and support.
