Thane Dunn bringing Elvis to life at deCoste

- BY SAM MACDONALD

The spirit of rock ’n’ roll royalty will soon grace the deCoste Performing Arts Centre this June.

Thane Dunn and his Cadillac Kings will be returning to the deCoste due to popular demand on June 9 to honour the legacy of the original King, Elvis Presley.

Dunn and his Cadillac Kings are known for a sound that blends the style of Elvis and country music for a show that’s bound to get feet tapping and maybe even tap into nostalgia for bygone days.

Although Elvis is known mostly for his popular rock ’n’ roll tunes, Dunn noted that the King had a great influence on country music, as well, an influence he and the Cadillac Kings hope to honour.

The upcoming show, entitled Elvis Rock and Country will feature an assortment of Elvis’s most memorable rock and roll tunes – like Blue Suede Shoes and Suspicious Minds – and a number of country songs, such as Always on My Mind and Kentucky Rain, to pay homage to his legacy in both genres.

Dunn is known as a consummate Elvis impersonator, embodying “the full Elvis package, delivering not only the look, voice, movies and mannerisms, but … also that magnetic personality and off-the-wall boyish charm … that makes you a believer,” reads the media release form the deCoste Centre.

Fans can be assured they’re getting an authentic Elvis experience – several people who worked with the King himself in the 1970s have endorsed Dunn’s show, and Dunn will be sporting an exact replica of Elvis’s favourite stage suit – the “Embroidered Peacock.”

“No expense has been spared to deliver Las Vegas-quality entertainment directly to you,” states the release.

“Things have been very busy since our last show at the deCoste,” said Dunn. “We’ve been performing with Bill Baize of Elvis’s original Stamps Quartet and he is actually my vocal coach. We are doing this show because not only do I love Elvis, but (we) have always loved classic country.”

Dunn noted that classic country, “sadly, rarely gets radio play anymore. People want to hear it. All our previous shows have been a hit, but I expect this one is going to take the roof off.”

Along with the King, a queen will be honoured too. The show’s opening act will feature The Rhinestone Cowgirl, a performer who honours the Queens of Country, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline in her shows.

“She has an amazing vocal range,” says the release, “and the looks of a movie star with incredible replica costumes of a time long gone by.”
