Non-profit partners with Kent to sell chairs
An Antigonish non-profit group is joining forces with Kent Building Supplies.
Jeff Teasdale, executive director of the Canadian Association for Community Living in Antigonish, delivered 15 wooden deck chairs to Kent that will be sold at the Stellarton location.
A total of 19 Kent stores across Atlantic Canada will carry the chairs beginning this week, he said.
Such a large order requires CACL to work with other sister agencies in Atlantic Canada to fill the orders. CACL currently has about 12 to 16 people working in its Antigonish workshop.
Teasdale said CACL purchases all of its supplies from Kent to build the chairs which are hand sanded and ready to be painted or stained by the customer. They retail at Kent for $129 each.
“It gives us great community exposure and its supports CACL,” said Steven Benjamin, store manager for Kent Building Supplies in Stellarton.
“I have worked with CACL when I was in the store in Antigonish and we had a great relationship. It is a two-way street because it gives customers a sense of community involvement.”
He added that past experience has shown that the chairs tend to sell out quickly.
Teasdale said money made from the sale of the chairs will go back into programming. CACL is non-profit organization dedicated to providing residential and vocational programs. It supports adults with intellectual disabilities from the town and County of Antigonish in their pursuit of quality living and work experiences.
It operates on funding provided by the province, community partners and revenue from sales of products and services. It says community support and the partnership of local businesses are very important to the continued operation of our programs and services.
