Modernizing laws alone not enough

-

To the editor,

Our government announced programs to address accessibility for everyone by 2030. If you buy that I have swamp land for sale.

Try parenting a child with special needs, you will acquire a realistic understand of user-friendliness. Words alluding to the sensitivity of caring, calculated to impress the public. Perhaps the public servants didn’t get the memo. I am sick of public officials taking the easy road, catering to the fortunate, addressing easy problems. Constantly parents battle public officials who have no time for the disadvantaged. No one knows better of the ongoing battle, than my son and wife, fighting with these empowered public officials is the norm. The newest development is with the vehicle compliance officers, another heartless government department. When taken to task they close ranks protecting their ass. Big tough guys driving grey trucks empowered by the government, exercising muscle on a handicapped child. Disaster on Abercrombie Road, our granddaughter is holding up traffic entering and leaving the school bus in front of her house. For 12 years like all kids, Ally has patiently waited for her school bus. God forbid one little girl in a wheel chair should inconvenience a few drivers. It is acceptable for 10 kids up the road to hold up traffic. The government plans to modernize our laws and departments. I hope this vehicle compliance group is not part of their plan. Great to see our tax dollar at work.
