Adam Matthew Popowich

-

Our hearts are breaking as we very sadly announce the sudden death, due to complications of pneumonia, of Adam Matthew Popowich (42), Cambridge, N.S., on the morning of May 26, 2018.

Born in New Glasgow on Sept. 19, 1975, Adam attended New Glasgow schools, graduating from Dalhousie University, and Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario. While in Ontario his diagnosis of Becker Muscular Dystrophy was confirmed. Adam met the love of his life, Christine Bigelow, in 2001 and they moved to Cambridge in the Annapolis Valley, where he worked for the past 15 years as a school librarian with the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. They married in 2003 and their daughter Veronica Julia (9) was very much like her daddy and loved Lego, Pictou County Pizza, silly games and laughing. Adam was quiet, caring, and funny, with a quirky sense of humour and the most beautiful smile anywhere. He made the best of his physical limitations and was a loving husband, daddy, son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friend.

Besides Christine and Veronica, Adam leaves his parents, Fred and Coreen (O’Brien) Popowich New Glasgow; his big brother, Simon (Michelle) Popowich Fredericton NB; grandmother, Margaret Popowich Brantford, Ont.; his parents-in-law, John and Cheryll Bigelow, Kingsport, N.S.; sisters-in-law, Dawn (John) Isnor, Gaspereau, N.S.; Cherisse Bigelow (Richard Yurdiga), Grassland, Alta.; nephews, Evan and Ryan Isnor and Jacob Yurdiga. Also grieving are aunt, Kathy (Michael) Amping, Pointe Claire, Que.; uncles, Leo (Rosemary) O’Brien, Brampton, Ont.; Kevin (Jackie) O’Brien, Pointe Claire, Que.; Peter (Diane) Popowich, Guelph, Ont.; Jim (Deborah) Popowich, Jerseyville, Ont.; cousins, Matthew (Susan) Popowich, David Popowich and Griffin Popowich of Ontario and grandmother-in-law, Jean Corbett, Wolfville, N.S., and many friends and colleagues.

Adam was predeceased by his much-loved grandparents, Arthur Popowich, Gertrude and Dennis O’Brien.

Adam lived life fully, loving his family and having the courage to live well in spite of his physical problems. His example was a gift to all of us and his memory will inspire everyone who knew him for a long while to come.

Visitation will take place on June 8, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, from where a celebration of life, followed by a reception, will be held on June 9, 2018, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Doctor Steven B.
