LORDA Park in Lansdown is the place to be this weekend if you’re looking to go fishing.

Not only will the second annual Fish for a Wish be a fun weekend for the family – it will be all for two great causes. Any donation guests bring along will go on to support the park and the Children’s Wish Foundation.

“You can take your whole family out,” said Mike Baillie, a

volunteer with the Children’s Wish Foundation and an avid user of LORDA Park for many years, serving as a spokesperson for the event.

The event was Baillie’s idea. He wanted to figure out a way to support both LORDA Park and the Children’s Wish Foundation, seeing a lack of funding for both, and hoping to do something about it.

The event will feature refreshments, door prizes, a barbecue, face painting and of course LORDA Park’s abundantly stocked pond in a beautiful woodsy setting. There will be plenty fish in that pond for those who partake.

“Also, you don’t need a licence out there,” noted Baillie.

Prizes are reserved for fishers who earn distinctions, like catching the largest and smallest fish. There will also be an assortment of kids games for youngsters, if they lose interest in the fishing.

Baillie said that although it’s still not yet the biggest event, it being in its second year, he hopes to see it grow, as people recognize what a great time it is.

Donations are completely at the discretion of people who show up for fishing, said Baillie, who added, “whatever the person wants to donate at the gate, they can.”

“It’s guaranteed to be a really fun day.”
