Monday Music in Alma celebrates summer

-

Monday evenings are going to be mighty fine at the Green Hill-Alma United Church again this summer.

Booking musicians for the summer concert series is well in the final stages now and organizers promise a terrific lineup.

The month of July will see a variety of musicians on stage. The series opens on July 9 with Kate MacLean and Greg Mashinter.

These two frequently play together in the Toronto area and, when MacLean heard that Mashinter was including Alma in his summer East Coast tour, she decided it would be a good time to visit her family and friends in Pictou County and join him on the stage for the Monday evening concert.

As always, the show will start at 7:30 p.m. and admission remains at only $10 or what the audience member can afford.

On July 16, Pictou County’s own Don Haggart takes the stage with his warm gospel and country classic tunes.

“Don has played Monday Music in Alma each of the four years we’ve been running, and he always fills the place and delights his faithful audience members,” said Gwen MacLean, series organizer.

July 23 will see Lacey Morrell return to the stage in Alma with her gentle and heartfelt songs; she will be accompanied by her friend and fellow musician Nathanial MacDonald.

July’s concerts wind up on the 30th with an evening hosted by another local singer songwriter, Crystal Mann. She is attending the Songwriting Workshop at Stanfest and plans on inviting a number of the other songwriters from that event to share their music at Monday Music in Alma.

The key word for August will be “fiddles”. Four of Pictou County’s finest fiddlers will take one Monday each and grace the stage with their tunes — whether alone or with friends — and share their own style and love of music. Be on the lookout for what’s to come. Monday Music in Alma continues to provide a great acoustic space for our musical friends and a great listening experience for our music loving audience.
