Town begins process for Pictou Academy
PICTOU — Expressions of interest for the former Pictou Academy building are now posted on town and provincial government websites, including NS Tenders for the repurposing of the former high school site. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and a proposal could be accepted before the official closing date of Nov. 1, 2018. Town documents state the building must be fully operated and maintained at no expense to the town and cannot remain vacant or fall into disrepair.
The former Pictou Academy was closed by the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board last summer when it moved students in grades 9 through 12 to the former Dr. Thomas McCulloch Junior High School and renamed it Pictou Academy. It also created a primary-to-Grade 8 school in the former Pictou Elementary School, renaming it McCulloch Education Centre.
