Musical Buddies trio have a three-night stint at the deCoste

-

Mid-August is looking to remain very hot, if not with the weather, then at least with the trio of Musical Buddies that the deCoste has lined up for the nights of Aug. 14, 15 and 16 as part of their annual Festival of Summer Sounds acts.

The first of the three musicians is Cape Breton’s most famous “buddy,” Buddy MacDonald who leads this cast of artists for the three night series.

Having toured the world sharing his uplift- ing spirit and songs, Mac- Donald enjoys performing his own material but feels at home doing the favourite pub music, sing along tunes and getting the audience involved. Especially with some of the old Irish, Scottish, Canadian and American folk music which the deCoste audiences love.

Meaghan Blanchard, who some refer to as the “other” spunky Island redhead, has been gaining momentum in her career since becoming a two-time ECMA winning songwriter. With the launch of her fourth album “The Great Escape,” she will be entertaining audiences with some of her new music, and some former favourites, many of which are songs she’s written showing the human emotions of self-doubt, fear and a hope looking for a better way of living. Rounding out the songwriter’s circle is none other than Pictou’s own Spyder MacDonald who uses his own wit and charisma to bring to life the personalities of the characters so prominent in his songs that tell the tales of the community’s storied past of ghost ships, rum runners and the landing of the Ship Hector, to mention a few.

The shows begin at 7:30 p.m. each night with the doors open at 7 p.m. There will be a pipe band playing prior to the start of the show on the deCoste deck and the bar will be open to serve up some drinks or shacks. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets can contact the box office at 902-485-8848, or toll free at 1-800-353-5338, online at decostecentre.ca or drop by in person at 99 Water St., Pictou. Tickets are sometimes available right up until the start of the show.
