Business aims to provide convenience to pet owners

A Plymouth dog grooming/daycare business is offering a new service to provide convenience to pet owners.

In a world where people live hectic, schedule-driven lives, Ashley Fraser believes a little convenience can go a long way.

That’s how she’s trying to set her business apart in Plymouth, just outside Stellarton.

Fraser owns Four Paws Grooming, Boarding and Daycare. It started as a grooming business two years ago, but this year expanded to include boarding and day care.

Situated on 50 acres and set back from the road, Fraser believes it’s the perfect space for people seeking a safe place for their pets to stay while they’re at work or away.

“Because we’re in a rural setting and about 300 metres off the road, we figured it’d be a comfort for people,” she said.

To further entice pet owners, she has started a pickup/drop-off service in recent weeks with her van that is decorated with pictures of dogs. Up to six dogs can be transported at a time.

“It operates similar to a school bus. We go in the morning. We pick the dogs up. We put them in a harness. They’ve got a seat belt as well and then we drop them off at the end of the day,” she said.

Fraser said driving the van around has proven good advertising in itself as people are drawn to the pictures of the dogs.

As an added convenience to pet owners, Fraser keeps flexible hours, opening at 6:30 a.m. and closing at 7:30 p.m.

“We also do daycare on the weekends,” she said.

This appeals to a lot of people who are working shift work, she added.

The business takes dogs of all sizes and breeds. They can accommodate up to 25 dogs, but have places to separate dogs who don’t play well with others.

For Fraser one of the greatest enjoyments is getting to work with the dogs.

“I’ve always had a passion for dogs,” she said. “They’re unconditional that’s for sure. They’re pretty forgiving.”
