Crushers fall to Capitals

Pictou County loses eighth straight contest; looks to snap streak Friday in Miramichi

The losses continue to pile up for the Junior A Crushers.

Playing the final game of the twoday MHL Showcase on Tuesday, the Crushers gave up three goals in the final period as the Summerside Western Capitals won 7-4.

Crushers’ Barrett Dachyshyn scored twice and added an assist for the home side and Isaac Chapman had a goal and two assists for Pictou County (1-5-3), who are now winless in eight games, but are just two points out of playoff position in the MHL’s South Division.

Evan MacLennan also had a goal, his team-leading fifth of the season. Dachyshyn leads the Crushers with 12 points (4G, 8A).

Kallum Muirhead and Brodie MacArthur each had two goals and two assists for the Western Capitals. It was Summerside’s fifth straight win.

The Crushers will try to sort out their current woes when they hit the road this weekend, with games at the Miramichi Timberwolv­es (Friday, 7:30 p.m.) and Campbellto­n Tigers (Saturday, 7:30 p.m.)

Their next home game is Oct. 18 against the Yarmouth Mariners.

Andrew Martell scored two goals and Alex MacIvar turned aside 30 shots to get the shutout.

Edmundston 5, South Shore 4

Sam King scored four times for the Blizzard, Gabriel Vanier had a goal and three assists. The Lumberjack­s were led by captain Cody Grant, who had two power play goals.

Campbellto­n 4, Valley 2

Joel Walker scored twice for the Tigers

Truro 2, St. Stephen 1

Karter Renouf scored the winner in the second period, and Myles Hektor made 22 saves for the Bearcats.

Miramichi 5, Amherst 2

Eric Pelletier put the game out of reach for the Timberwolv­es and James Walker also had a pair of goals.
