• Donate Clothing – and cloth items to Diabetes Canada’s reusable goods donation program. Drop bagged items in red clothing donation bins available at several locations throughout Pictou County. Call 1-800-505-5525 or visit declutter.diabetes.ca for more information.

• Self esteem – Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre is offering a self esteem course for women. Call the Centre, 902-7554647 to indicate whether day or evening would be preferable and which topics would be of interest to you.

• Get your GED – Free classes for those who want to improve their reading skills or obtain their GED offered by Pictou County Continuous Learning Association. Must be 19 years of age or over and have been out of school for more than one year. Register at 4857014 or 755-5827 for classes starting the week of Sept. 24. Choose the class that suits you best – morning classes in Pictou, morning or full time classes in New Glasgow or an evening class at the NSCC in Stellarton.

• Stellarton Legion Chase the Ace – weekly Friday Nights at 9 p.m. Tickets for sale daily in the lounge up to 8:30 pm on Friday. Tickets $5 for 4. You do not need to be present to win.

• Jam Session – All singers, players, toe tappers and hummers are welcome at the jam sessions in the Durham Community Hall Wednesday evenings 7-9 p.m. Shared lunch. Silver collection.

• Art in the Hall 4 – until Dec 7, 2018 This is the fourth in a series of rotating installations of art by Pictou County artists. Curated by the Art At

Large Collective, this show features six new and emerging artists. Free admission to view the show. Museum of Industry, Stellarton.

• Kid’s section – Lego Builders Club at the Museum of Industry Stellarton, Tuesdays 3 to 4 p.m. Ages 5 & older. Free admission, no pre-registration required.

• Auction 45’s – at Trenton Legion at 1 p.m.

• Hot Pork Supper – St Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Merigomish 4-6 p.m. Adults $12. Children under 12 $6. Pantry table, take outs available.

• Community Yard Sale – 9 a.m.noon at Durham Community Hall, 1679 Green Hill Rd.

• Wishmakers Walk for Wishes – A pledge based walk to raise funds to grant wishes for children 3-17 who are dealing with a life threatening illness. The event will be held at 300 Stewart Street, New Glasgow. Parade begins at noon with a post walk celebration to follow.

October 14

• Chase the Ace – at Trenton Legion spons. by Trenton Fire Dept. and Br. #29 from 2-4 p.m. Advance tickets available from Mon.-Sat. at regular vendors. Complete list on Trenton Legion Facebook page. Jackpot starting at $9,688 and draw will be shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday. Karaoke to follow with KGB Ent. until 9 p.m.

• Memorial Hymn Sing – An evening of singing the old and familiar hymns at St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs, 7 p.m. Hosted by the board of stewards. Lunch and fellowship to follow.

• 142nd Anniversary – at Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn at 3 p.m. Guest speaker, Audrey Cameron. Special Music by The Old Time Pictou County Fiddlers. Social hour to follow. All welcome.

• Regular Monthly Meeting – of the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Association will be held at 7 p.m. in the UCT Building behind Summer Street Ind on Park Street New Glasgow. The public is invited to attend. The building is wheelchair accessible. Social will follow.

October 19

• Family Round and Square Dance –at St. Mary’s Parish Hall - Hwy 245

Maryvale, Antigonish Co. from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Music provided by Shelly Campbell and guest. Admission: $10. Children 12 and under free when accompanied by an adult. Tea and sweets provided.

• Variety Concert – hosted by the Little Harbour Ladies Fire Auxiliary which is celebrating 40 years of service to their Fire Dept. and community, at the Little Harbour Community Centre at 7 p.m. Local talent, open bar, munchies, 50/50 draw. Admission is a freewill offering and everyone is welcome.
