Pictou County Council of Churches holds meeting

-

The Pictou County Council of churches met Oct. 2 at the Salvation Army Citadel in Westville.

Major Wayne Pike gave a meaningful devotional focusing his thoughts on how interesting life is. He spoke of two seasons that speaks volumes to him: the Christmas season, which is very important in the lives of Christians, reminding us of the greatest gift given to mankind in the person of Jesus who came to us as a babe in a manger, and fall, where he expressed his love for the woods seeing the vibrant colours of the trees, hills and valleys. He further spoke of a beautiful sunset and the colour red, seen in the sunset and trees; bringing out the thought of passion.

He gave the advice that we should show our passion in the world in a good way; Matthew 5:16 says, “let your light shine before men ...” The colour orange reflects warmth and symbolizes thoughtfulness and sincerity, (Ephesians 4:32). Yellow, a colour that makes one feel happy, as Christians we should have joy in our hearts. Purple, the colour of royalty, as Christians we need to be loyal to Jesus Christ (Romans 8: 16-17). He spoke on the importance of the colour brown, it is the stability of all the other colours; without brown, the other colours would not seem so brilliant, reminding us that in Christ we have an anchor and others can see if we are living for Christ. (Colossians 2:7). In closing, he reminded us our colours do matter; our colours can be an influence on others. The colours we are, portrays us as the people we are. He closed in prayer.

Rev. Barrett Clare-Johnson, chairman of the Spiritual Care Committee, gave his report.

Fern White is now actively volunteering her time with spiritual care to support the palliative care unit. Volunteers must obtain photo identification cards for spiritual care visits.
