It’s that time of the year when the days get shorter, nights get cooler and our immune systems are being antagonized. We must be ready for those viruses and protect ourselves from unnecessary infections.

Begin by dressing with layers and not being overly cold. Grab a bottle of vitamin C and take at least 1,000 milligrams daily (500 milligrams for children), as this will boost your immune system. If you find your throat is a bit scratchy, try gargling with four drops of tea tree oil in half a glass of warm water as this is anti-viral/bacterial and fungal. Great stuff! Some people use the Echinacea and goldenseal drops as well.

There are immune-boosting complex supplements available, so go speak with health-oriented pharmacies and stores. There are herbal tea formulas available — having a cup of medicinal tea is a great way to end your busy day. Homeopathic pellets work well as well, including kali bichromicum 30CH for sinus congestion and hydrastis Canadensis 30C for post nasal congestion.

If you are experiencing throat and chest congestion then use castor oil, with a few drops of essential oil expectorants, and rub over your chest. Follow this with a hot cloth, dry cloth and heating pad. It’s very comforting and soothing to a congested chest.

Start your day with a mug of boiled water and add a tablespoon of lemon juice and a dash of cayenne, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and honey or stevia.

Probiotics are very important for the immune system as 70 to 80 per cent of our immunity originates from the gut. Staying positive and listening to self-help audio books while you are driving is very important and helps boost the immune system.
